K S Hegde Medical College (MBBS) Admission through Management Quota





The Institute
K S Hegde Medical Academy was established in 1999 by the Nitte Education Trust. The college is named after the visionary and founder, late Justice K S Hegde, former Justice of the Supreme Court of India and former Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Academic Courses & Training

The Institute started admitting students to the undergraduate course, MBBS from the year 1999-2000 and to postgraduate courses like MD, MS and DNB from 2006. Students are offered the best of opportunities for both theoretical as well as practical training with the help of state-of-the-art facilities, valuable clinical material and guidance by experienced teachers and researchers. The Institute is attached to the K S Hegde Hospital so adequate infrastructural support is available for patients and student training.

Affiliations & International Collaborations

K S Hegde Medical Academy is now a constituent unit of the Nitte University and is recognised by the Medical Council of India, Government of India. KSHEMA has signed an agreement of co-operation with the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, Houston, USA for co-operation in research on diseases like malaria and tuberculosis. The college has established a state-of-the-art regional research centre on communciable diseases in collaboration with the University of Texas Health Sciences, on the campus. The Institute also has a staff exchange and training programme with Maimonides Hospital, Brooklyn, USA.

M.B.B.S (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery)

K S Hegde Medical Academy offers a four and a half year program leading to the award of the degree, M.B.B.S. K S Hegde Medical Academy and the attached K S Hegde Hospital are duly recognised by the Medical Council of India.

As per the curriculum designed by the Nitte University, every student shall undergo a period of certified study extending over 4 1/2 academic years from the date of commencement of study to the date of completion of examination followed by 1 year of compulsory rotatory internship. The Institute offers undergraduate as well as postgraduate training in medical and surgical specialities.

The 4½ year course has been divided into 3 phases:

Phase I - 1 year consisting of 2 terms of 6 months each.
Phase II - 1 ½ years consisting of 3 terms of 6 months each.
Phase III - 2 years consisting of 4 terms of 6 months each.

The first year will deal with the study of the Phase-I (Pre-Clinical) subjects of Human Anatomy, Physiology including Bio-Physics, Bio-Chemistry and Introduction to Community Medicine.

Phase-II is devoted to Para-Clinical and Clinical subjects. Para-Clinical subjects shall consist of Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine including Toxicology and part of Community Medicine. During this phase, the clinical subjects shall be taught concurrently. The clinical subjects taught will be Medicine and its allied specialities, Surgery and its allied specialities and Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

Phase-III is divided into Part 1 which consists of ENT, Ophthalmology and Community Medicine and Part 2 which consists of clinical subjects - Medicine and its allied specialities, Surgery and its allied specialities, Obstetrics & Gynaecology.



Admissions

Eligibility criteria for MBBS course

A pass in 12th standard or equivalent examination approved by the Medical Council of India with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the languages of study, with atleast 50% marks in aggregate of optional subjects.
The candidate should have completed 17 years of age as on December 31 of the year of admission.

  • Admission under NRI quota
The admission under the NRI category is based on merit in the qualifying examination taking into consideration, marks secured in the core subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. 

Foreign nationals are also considered for admission under this quota.
Students seeking admission under the NRI category should submit a separate application to the college in the prescribed format, available at the University office, Mangalore or from the website www.nitteuniversity.ac.in along with the attested photocopies of the following documents:
  1. 10th Std. marks card/pass certificate (for proof of date of birth)
  2. 10+2 marks card
  3. Transfer certificate from the institution last attended
  4. Passport and student visa
  5. Passport and Employer"s certificate as proof of NRI status (if the candidate has studied in India)
  6. A demand draft for Rs.650/- towards registration fee favoring Nitte University, payable at Mangalore.

The payment of fee shall be from the Non Resident External (N.R.E) account of the parent.

  • Admission under General Merit category
The admission under the General merit category will be through the process of centralised single window counselling on the basis of merit(rank) obtained in the All India Entrance Test, NU UGET conducted by Nitte University.

As per the regulations of the statutory bodies, the minimum percentage of marks in the Entrance Test to be eligible for admission to the MBBS course shall be 50% for General Category candidates.

Commencement of course

The course commences as per the date prescribed by the University, most likely during the first week of August. The exact date will be communicated by the Institution.

  6. Migration Certificate from the Board of the institution last attended
  7. Physical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner
  8. Blood group certificate
  9. Photographs: Passport size 05, Stamp size 05
    Additional documents to be produced for NRIs only
  1. Valid passport and student visa for the period of study. (Original must be shown for verification. 5 duly-attested photocopies must be produced.)
  2. Proof of employment of the parent – Original
  3. Attested photocopy of the passport of the parent (if the student has studied in India)

    Additional documents to be produced for Foreign nationals only
  1. Valid passport and student visa for the period of study. (Original must be shown for verification. 5 duly-attested photocopies must be produced.)
  2. Letter of sponsorship if applicable – Original + 5 copies
  3. *Residential permit from the local SP and FRO
  4. *No objection certificate issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India

* These will be processed once the student reports at the University/Institution.


Eligibility criteria for M.D - M.S

The minimum qualification for admission to the postgraduate program is a MBBS degree or an equivalent degree recognised by the University and MCI.
