Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Mumbai was founded in the year 1996. The institute received recognition of the Medical Council of India (MCI), for the award of MBBS degree from its very first batch.

The Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth comprising of Padmashree Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, has been awarded the status of University under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.
The college was permitted to teach post-graduate courses in a couple of subjects. In June 2005, the college was allowed an intake of 81 students in post graduate degree and diploma.

These certifications and expansions granted by the MCI, UGC, MHRD and by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India are the result of visionary guidance and whole hearted support of Dr. P. D. Patil, the efforts put in by the faculty and the excellent facilities like spacious buildings, measuring 4,50,000 sq. ft., large lecture halls, well-equipped laboratories, well-stocked library, a hospital with super specialty facilities, such as MRI, whole body CT Scan, ICUs with ventilators, and the equipment required for Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, etc.

The college gives importance to research. Several research proposals of post-graduate students and of the faculty members are approved and funded by bodies, such as, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), DST and the Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune.

Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS):
Its duration is four and a half years plus one year of compulsory rotating internship course.

Eligibility:
  • Candidates satisfying the following criteria shall be eligible to appear for AIET
  • Candidates must be Indian National.
  • The Nationality Certificate issued by the District Magistrate / Additional District Magistrate I Chief Metropolitan Magistrate or a valid Passport shall constitute proof of Nationality.
  • The candidate should have born on or before 31.12.1997
  • Candidate should have passed H.S.C. (10+2) or equivalent examination from a Recognized Board with English securing minimum 50% marks (40% for all categories of backward class students) in the aggregate of the subjects namely, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany & Zoology) for admission to MBBS / BDS courses. The Backward class candidates must attach copy of the Caste Certificate and Caste Verification Certificate along with the application. Selection Procedure:
Candidates who secure the minimum 50% marks at AIET and satisfy the eligibility norms laid down by respective councils are eligible for admission to MBBS / BDS / BAMS / B.P.T. courses and can be offered provisional admission to these on the basis of their interse merit at the time of counseling.
